I’m originally from Los Angeles, California, but I’ve spent most of my adult life living in Utah. I earned my Bachelor of Social Work degree from Utah Valley University in 2017, with a focus on Parenting Education, after raising nine children in a blended family. From there, I moved to New England and pursued a Masters of Social Work degree at Boston University, specializing in Trauma and Violence. During my time at BU, I engaged in parenting research, and after graduation, I was invited to participate in the creation of a pilot study, receiving training from Harvard’s Center on the Developing Child and Georgetown University’s Center for Excellence.
In my work as a primary counselor in addiction recovery, I developed and led educational workshops for clients and their families. I also counseled individuals and couples working through the complexities of addiction recovery together. My continued learning led me to focus on understanding anxiety, OCD, depression, and how the body’s nervous system responds to stress. This has helped me support individuals and families in more meaningful ways.
With nearly ten years of experience in behavioral health, I place great value on helping my clients discover their passion for what’s possible. I believe that through authentic connection and structured work, clients can increase their capacity for change, whether they’re working through interpersonal relationship strain, trauma, addiction, anxiety, depression, or OCD. I’ve also received additional training in trauma-responsive parenting, attachment theory, and polyvagal theory, and I’ve completed formal training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I use my experience with DBT, ERP, and
CBT to guide clients in a values-based experience as they choose to live better, not just feel better.
My personal life experiences complement my formal education in significant ways. I’ve traveled the world as a business owner, engaged in volunteer work, and worked hard raising nine children in a blended family. I’ve personally come to understand the importance of attending to matters of the heart while also increasing one’s capacity for practical problem-solving and service. As the oldest of seven children, one of the most significant insights I’ve gained throughout my life is that one’s personal perspective is indeed reality.
In my free time, I love reading with my grandchildren. I also enjoy live theater, concerts, and all kinds of dancing. I know that spending time with my family, learning new things, and being in nature bring me meaning and help me live in alignment with my personal values.
